Ineligible Horses
In some cases a horse may carry 75% Appaloosa blood and still not be eligible for FAHR
registration for the following reasons:
- FAHR will not register horses descending from families known to carry HYPP, regardless
of generation or pedigree.
- FAHR will not register horses that exhibit the graying gene.
- Horses exhibiting paint characteristics, which include a bald face, blue or glass eye(s),
white on the legs that comes up more than three inches below the knee or hock, and misplaced
white (which is white not placed in a correct Appaloosa coat pattern). Although seen in
modern Appaloosas today with alarming frequency, original ApHC rules denied horses with
these characteristics registration papers.
